The idea of Dead Guy Demos is: bizarre outsider artist guy makes a ton of unfinished bedroom demos and then dies, leaving some loved one to release the "dead guy demos". This was an important part in the development of a certain aspect of my songwriting/recording from this point forward; it was with this double album that I began to rethink my ideas about when a song was "finished" or "complete". This led to a series of albums - first under the Dead Guy Demos moniker and later with the phrase Hopeless Guitar somewhere in the phrasing (though that change in name also brings with it a slight change of formula - but more on that later) - that would be made up of a combination of composed songs in various stages of completion, and improvised songs (vocal or not). I wanted to have the lines blend somewhat between what is perceived to be written and what is perceived to be improvised, to always be true to the wildest and freakiest impulses, and to not be afraid to confound.
