All good boxed sets come with a disc of Supplementals. This is no exception. Here are the unasked for acoustic demo versions of a couple of SIDES tunes ("Nostalgia as Perfume", "Roger Nightly"), a version of a prog metal track from Town Hall Debate with a recording of Charles Bukowski reading one of his poems over the top ("The Rat"; thanks Hank), and a very bizarre and super slow doom metal version of the Frank Zappa classic "Father O'Blivion" (here as "Slow Alphonzo's Oblivion") made by slowing the original down a LOT and playing along. There are also two tracks that exemplify an early model of this project, one that employed an aesthetic I've long referred to as "Continuing Soup - Lozenges" wherein very long tracks are made up of diparate musical elements that float up to the surface of the "soup" like a "lozenge" before being sucked under again and replaced by another. Initially, the (mostly instrumental) music I was creating in late 2008-early 2009 was meant to be edited together into giant collage-like pieces, with elements returning at later points and the whole thing having a very programmed feel. I quickly realized this was not the best collection of material to showcase this style, and opted instead to leave the songs whole and group them together with like-minded pieces. But here are two edits that would have represented two (of probably 4) sides of my music in that era.
