Shit gets weird. In 2010 my computer crapped out and I got a new one. What this meant (for some reason) was that I'd never use ProTools at home again. I'm not even that sure why, though I do remember having some issues with using some of my software with the new machine. Methods of recording have never been all that important to me (nor fidelity in my recordings) and so I have been happy to work with whatever limitations or parameters I am stuck with at the time. When I got the new computer I was interested in trying out the then-pretty recent Garageband program. I was intrugued at how user-friendly home recording was getting and I was determined to continue to produce music that was in a timeline with what I had done the years prior but adapted itself to this populist (and "free" to those with access to a Mac) system. I also decided to eschew any added hardware or plug-ins that the common, non-musician Mac user wouldn't have. In the end, the album was created using only the Qwerty keyboard as any sort of instrument/controller. Vocals were sung into the computer screen with only the Mac's screen mic. Did these limitations create an indelible and essential work of art? Eh, probably not so much. But even this bit of amateurish mawkishness has its slanted charms. This piece is definitely for the completists only.
